What can you expect during our Walking Dinner?
We will welcome you on board with a glass of bubbles. The idea of a Walking Dinner is that all dishes are eaten standing (there are also seats). No formal seating so you are free to move around the boat and chat with everyone.
Our Chef will cook live on board. Very fun to watch. Our hostesses will serve the freshly prepared dishes. In the meantime, we serve the most delicious wines. A Walking Dinner lasts at least 2.5 hours. The Walking Dinner package from Rederij Mokum is a culinary cruise for large groups through Amsterdam.
If you have specific wishes, please contact us, so there is always something that suits your needs.
Dining in historic ships
Rederij Mokum has beautiful historic salon boats. Our boats offer every comfort on board. In bad weather, our boats are wonderfully heated. When the weather is nice, the windows and roof can be fully opened. A Walking Dinner on board one of our ships is an intimate way to enjoy the Amsterdam canals.
Walking Dinner for small and large groups
You can book a Walking Dinner with us for 20-50 people. We make a quote with love. Sailing through the canals, we can organize a dinner cruise for up to 50 guests in one ship. If there are more, we can of course always deploy several ships. Sail through the canals with our classic salon boats in Amsterdam as a sailing restaurant!

Frequently asked questions at a Walking dinner Amsterdam
Can we choose or do we eat a set menu?
Van Barneveld offers an 8-course menu with something for everyone. If you really don’t like a dish, we can always come up with a replacement.
What is the difference between an Amsterdam dinner cruise and a walking dinner?
With a dinner cruise, the dishes are served sitting on board and eaten at a long table. With a Walking Dinner, several small dishes are served standing.
Do we eat the dishes while sailing through the canals of Amsterdam? Or are we lying still in front of a restaurant?
The dishes are prepared on board and will therefore be enjoyed while we sail on the beautiful canals of Amsterdam.
Does this mean we have to stand all the time?
There are standing tables available to hang out on and we always have chairs on board for the elderly or people who want to rest their legs.

Why is Amsterdam called “Mokum”?
Until the Second World War, Jewish traders often gave large cities a nickname. The reason was as simple as it was convenient. Due to the secret nickname, potential listeners could not find out where Jewish traders traveled with their valuable merchandise (often diamonds!). The nicknames of the cities invariably started with ‘Mokum’. This was followed by a letter of the Hebrew alphabet. This letter was often the first letter of the name of the city in question. This is how Dordrecht was called Mokum Dollet. Berlin, Mokum Beisz and Amsterdam, Mokum Allif. After the Second World War, this form of secret language disappeared. Only Amsterdam has held out and we no longer need Allif. It is hinted that the Jews used the word Mokum to indicate that they felt at home in Amsterdam. Mokum is a pet name for many Amsterdam residents and of course also for us.
